[Pharo-project] about the transcript: Model vs Morph

Hi, I wanted to better understand the issues raised agains the (new) Transcript. Many people are arguing against the current Morph widget displaying the Transcript, complaining that it is read only. The fix is simple, provide a new implementation of TranscriptMorph , which provides cut & paste, scrolling , and the other functionality previously there. This is the announcement on the benefits of the new transcript made by Juan. New Transcript Fast (Calls return quickly) Fast (Updates are immediate) Thread safe Can log to file in addition to Display Display output is optional (for headless images) Can work on a bare bones image (Doesn't need UI, dependency, events, processes) Optional morphic window for seamless integration in Morphic UI framework agnostic. Can be used to debug Morphic, even with the morphic window open, without crashing the image! No longer a text editor. Display is read only. So according to the mails in the list, Pharo disagrees on the last issue, but this means only improving the TranscriptMorph. I dont have time to work on it, but will next week. Are people actually complaining against the (new) Transcript model? or just the TranscriptMorph missing features ? I recall Igor, wanting the Transcript to be polymorphic with the protocol of a WriteStream. Which is already there. Thanks, Fernando

[Pharo-project] squeaksource is down - a different perspective

Otherwise people would give Tobias more feedback on SqueakSource3 (see [1]) which IMHO could overtake the job in the future and replace the problematic image? Or is the outage a traffic problem and may happen with SS3 too? Is the (daily?) restart the only option we have or is a migration to a newer SS version possible? And yes - SmalltalkHub is on the way, but we still dont know how well it fits our needs/works/scales. Yes, this sounds negative but I think it can replace Squeaksource only in a long term... Bye T. [Pharo-project] squeaksource is down - a different perspective

Hi, squeaksource.com is down a lot. People get frustrated at times. The situation clearly needs rectification. But, here is the thing: I love it! It simply means that the future that seemed to work just fine only a couple of years ago was long overpassed. This is phenomenal growth. And I can afford to love it because the promise of SmalltalkHub is right around the corner. That is so great. I am looking forward to move to it, and then I will be looking forward to getting it on its knees in a couple of years :). Ok Squeaksource is up again. I did run a script that should load the missing commits if they have been store on the disk. Please check if they are there otherwise you just have to commit them again. Hi All, When an SqueakSource Instance crashed, I may loose the information that some files already have been uploaded. Hi, yes i notice that SqueakSource is particularly unstable lately. I have to restart it everyday. About your problem i will now run a script to try to recover your commits. I will let you know soon.
