Indeed, you are right! This happens in the Pharo 1.2 12303 (attached the PharoDebug.log), but not in 12292. Does anyone know what changed in between? I fixed it that way nextPut: aCharacter toStream: aStream aStream isBinary ifTrue: [^ aCharacter storeBinaryOn: aStream]. aCharacter charCode < 128 ifTrue: [aStream basicNextPut: aCharacter] ifFalse: [aStream basicNextPut: ((Character value: (self fromSqueak: aCharacter)))].
