I've read again the thread of september about XMLRPC and therefore the general discussion around services techniques... I understand soap is not a priority (and probably not a good technique). This is just I'd like to make an interface to our planing application and all their provide is soap. The sad thing is as it's working out of the box in php, we use php instead... Anyway, I'll continue to find a way to query these services from Pharo... but a straighter one... As, I just need a client, I think I'll try to get something simple, like get and parse the wsdl file, then build a local model that can be used to directly query the services... My first thought is to create classes for each services entities, then each method (probably class side) will fire the right soap request... If it sounds stupid, please tell me before I spend too much time here ;-) Just one question, which HTTP client should I use ? I've been lost since the development of WebClient, Zn*, ... [Pharo-project] Protocol Buffers anyone?

Hi! I want to build an API for Riak (awesome NoSQL db) and there is a choice of using HTTP or Protocol Buffers. Evidently Protocol Buffers offer a quite higher degree of performance so I am leaning towards that. Now, has anyone dabbled with implementing Protocol Buffers for Squeak/Pharo/Smalltalk? I made a user interface builder for Polymorph, which I left because I was too complicated for me. I hope that now someone more knowledgeable can really necessary to implement a tool for Squeak / Pharo as a visual designer user interfaces. Dave, Does that mean that PipeableOSProcess can load w/o MVC support? That would be great! You've just reminded me that there is a Windows plugin - for a long time, I thought it was necessary to use ProcessWrapper there. I don't have much need for piping on Windows, but one never knows when it might surface again. Is there a binary for the plugin? I find the Linux VM wanting in diagnostic feedback, so I end up hacking and building it from source, but the Windows VM seems to just work as-is; I have not needed to build it for a long time. In fairness, I don't ask much of Windows these days, but I do need to target it. Issues are timing related, and I cannot say if they are issues in Pharo, CommandShell, or maybe just the way I wrote the tests. But for general use, everything seems to be working now. When running on Cog, you should expect #forkSqueak to fail, but it will no longer crash the VM as in earlier OSProcess versions. However, #forkSqueak is used extensively in the unit tests for various multiprocessing test setups, which means that the test suites will not run properly. That said, most of the rest of OSProcess and CommandShell should work on Cog. Most things should work on a Mac VM, although I cannot personally verify. Windows support is incomplete and the plugin is not widely available. Dave
