I added addRepository39ToAllPackages to the latest scriptLoader version so that when you add the squeak trunk you can merge Now the problem is that eliot was working on an old 3.9 image or croquet 3.8 and that we fixed a lot of things already. So merging his changes will not be that easy. Stef

Right, it's just the $HOME environment variable, which is set up when you log in to the system and inherited by all processes that you run afterward. There is no direct access to this from Squeak. Using OSProcess to get the environment, I have this on Linux: OSProcess thisOSProcess environment at: 'HOME' ==> '/home/lewis' And on the same computer running Windows XP, the closest equivalent seems to be: OSProcess thisOSProcess environment at: 'HOMEPATH' ==> '\Documents and Settings\David Lewis' But I think that the $HOMEPATH convention may vary from one version of Windows to another (I'm not sure of this), and a Windows user might more naturally think of '\Documents and Settings\David Lewis\My Documents' as the "home". There may not really be any "home directory" concept that would make sense on all platforms. Dave

I apologize for not answering sooner, i was offline after returning from the ESUG. I'm fixing now problems related to Lumiere, mostly regarding the texture folder missing. Tomorrow i'l send an email to the list, officially presenting lumiere, a brief description, tutorials and the official homepage. But briefly, lumiere is a 3D renderer for producing 3D applications. with high level abstractions and using OpenGL as the base renderer, that uses the AlienOpenGL library wrapper. (we implemented using ALIEN FFI framework ). Since the Alien framework is working and tested under MAC for now, it only works there. But people are working for integrating into windows, and also alien can now be installed in Squeak ( using Installer, instead of Gofer and flair). The only thing needed for running Lumiere is to execute the following script, having the alien plugin ( IA32ABI.bundle ) under the plugins folder in the root directory. (i will that in the home page also) ScriptLoader loadLatestPackage: 'LumiereLoader' from: 'http://www.squeaksource.com/Lumiere' . LumiereLoader load. Saludos, Fernando pd: as Igor said , OpenGL wont give you widgets but it will allow you to build them using Lumiere or ALienOpenGL. Or use ALienFFI to build a wrapper for some external library that does that. pd2: I'm aslo interested in adding a complete set of widgets and text rendering capabilities using Lumiere, so we could discuss this further. [Pharo-project] OpenSSL

Stef, Esteban, I would be very open to FFI but them immediately start to wonder about OS threads. From what I remember of the OpenSSL non-blocking calls, somebody else can do that part - I'll use threads. Dolphin has what are called overlapped calls that are made on a separate thread. Originally, it pulled from a pool of threads. The latest version might ensure that all calls from a given Smalltalk process are made on the same OS thread. My requests for such a feature in Squeak/Pharo have always been met with "yeah, you could do that if you wanted" or something along those lines. Ideally, I would hope the FFI gurus would embrace it and do it properly. Have they done so? Bill

Without looking at the VMMaker code I guess that this is a DNU of the message between:and: (the currentClass in lookupMethodClass: has pointer 4, which is the nil object, so it seems the lookup failed). To debug this, I would look what the receiver class is (i.e., 1171660) and then why it does not understand this message. BTW, do you also use Pharo as the image to simulate? [Pharo-project] latest Pharo-dev... where are the refactoring tools?

Hi, I downloaded latest pharo dev (since a few versions ago), and I noted the changes in the browsers, to O2Browser, and droping OBEnhancement (which was too slow, I think). The change is cool, we have faster browsers, but now I lost all those wonderful refactoring tools... Is there a way I can get them back? is there a refactoring browser or something? Cheers, Esteban
