[Pharo-project] Events, announcements, etc.

Hello all, I know there has been a fair amount of discussion of event mechanisms; I have not been able to follow all of it, and have probably forgotten most of what I did manage to absorb. That said, I _think_ I am fairly flexible as long as there is some way to trigger events and get messages sent to interested parties. Dolphin calls uses selectors such as #trigger: and #trigger:with:. Pharo has methods called #triggerEvent:, etc. Is that done for a specific reason? Am I walking into any traps by forwarding them to #trigger: and friends? Bill

You need to take the metro number 4, direction "Porte d'OrlÃ©ans". It will stop at Paris Montparnasse. I am confused regarding the problem in a core image: - Does it really occur in a core image? It seems so according to Philippe. - Which is the offending update? We had three recent updates: 10420 - 10422. Updating from 10419 to 10420 to 10422 worked for me on Mac (4.2.1beta1U). To update to a specific version you can use: Utilities updateFromServerThroughUpdateNumber: 10420 It would be good if we could track that problem down before pushing new updates. Chris, I respectfully disagree. I know what you mean about "saving garbage," but after giving it a lot of thought over years of faithful service from Dolphin, I realized that it is a perfectly fine design because it allows objects and external resources to plow merrily past an image save. The bogus data is quickly discarded on startup because it is only then that it can be recognized as garbage. As for first-class connections, that sounds fine as far as it goes. Who sets policy about timeouts and expected activity levels? I submit that one size does not fit all; Microsoft tried it (DCOM), and it was a _total_ disaster. Provide all the slick stuff you want, but we should also grant our peers (developers) access to working sockets, and having them cut off on snapshots just because "Squeak does it that way" is not the way to meet Pharo's mission.
