Now on desktop, the preference is named "showTextEditingState" in the "morphic" category. For the Watery theme the focus indication takes priority (so you just see the slightly rounded corners with red in the corners). Non-focused text panes show a whole red rectangle. Other themes that use a dotted focus indication are more obvious. Of course, our modified browsers show "Modified" in the tile bar :-). Stef, This code is coming from Dolphin. I thought about making a modified source filer and then thought of SIF. In the debugger, I cannot evaluate an expression that defines a block. The compiler says this variable already exists. Another point that I discovered when recompiling the image, the following method definition is compilable with the standard compiler: AClass>>foo .... But with the new compiler it does not compile. Michael, Ah, the .snafu file type ;) That is an interesting idea. Anybody else for it? It is interesting, as I have written some tools that parse logs for various purposes, and never once thought of doing the obvious. One potential snag is that I found a need to create a process safe stream; I doubt the number of open files would be terrible, but it would be worth a look to see the extent of its use. Stef, Will do. The append option will come first. The crash dumps might take more effort, since I did not even see the feature on Linux. Not sure what to make of that. I guess I was hacking the VM, so maybe it is available only on Windows. If that is the case, we should fix it. I assume you want an option? How about #appendToDebugLog? Yes, I have FreeType. I don't think the crash.dmp file really shows the cause of the problem though... (by the way, the crash.dmp file, at least, gets appended to). Squeak appears to overwrite its debug log; minimally, I think there should be an option to append, and it probably should default to true. The cause of this crash would probably be easy to detect using message send tracing in the VM. See "VM for Squeak with message sent instrumentation" on http://www.smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html (I once used it to debug an issue on linux but had to modify and compile my own VM because this feature is not in the VM by default). As a workaround, close all unnecessary windows/morphs then, in a class browser selecfte the ScrollPane class, use the halos to grab the code pane and place in the World desktop. Then close the class browser (code pane remains), make the change to the class template, select all and do-it. Seems ok then. I have occasionally noticed that the VM will crash when recompiling some morph classes while they are in use. ComponentLikeModel seems quite out of sync Left over from the fabrik experiment. After a good code reading I think that we can remove this class. duplicate:from: -> no sender addPinFromSpec: PinMorph was removed previously so let us remove it. :) choosePartName is duplicated choosePartName is only invoked by some menus It seems that the internalName of the debugMenu of the debug halo is somehow change the instance variable name of the selected object. There is no implementors of copySlotMethodsFrom: so : delete init* methods are about pin nameMeIn: is only invoked from init* method I imagine that you are convinced that removing this class is good. For the curious, somewhere along the way the Sophie team decided to go with Quicktime as the primary media source because Apple bundles it with iTunes, and given the iPod/iPhone monopoly why finding Quicktime on a Windows machine now is fully expected. However you must choose your codec carefully some videos formats we would find would be there on Windows, but not there on Macintosh. Also if you use OGG that is not a default Quicktime codec, for that reason we bundled the OGG squeak players with Sophie so that we could fall back to them (part of the Sophie Movie logic) if OGG Quicktime was not installed. It would be more advantageous to concentrate on the GStreamer interface as a way of providing multi-media applications. Serge, I agree more than I disagree. However, I will take my usual stance that it is the FEEL of Squeak that is suffering. Fortunately, Gary has helped there too! IMHO, the _real_ benefit of Morphic is as an emulated widget framework. Don't say this to a static language guru<g>, but native widgets do not scale well; eventually large grids, etc. need a way to escape the overhead of washing everything trough the OS. Absolutely, we should not kill Morphic w/o having a replacement emulated framework. Failing a replacement, we should keep it. Bill Wilhelm K.
