Re: [Pharo-project] Strange bugs?
by Adrian Lienhard
It's not that bad... there was *one* mail suggesting that Pharo is
"too" buggy (for what?), whereas in general people have expressed
positive experience.
The only thing we can learn from this is to improve our communication,
so that people don't have wrong expectations. In the current case this
means to not only suggest people to move to Pharo but at the same time
to say that we are still in an alpha phase. Like this nobody will be
disappointed and wrong criticism can be prevented (or at least
ignored). The web site will also help to make things like this more
clear in the future.

I added a bugreport: http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=309
But I really wonder how people came to the idea that any and each
small interation of pharo needs to be bug-free...
This reaction of the Squeak community to destroy anyone who dares to
make a small mistake (and even calling this a mistake is a stretch)
is very strange. One thing to learn in the Squeak community: Talking
is good, Doing is bad. I only wonder how one will have a future with
that kind
of attitude.

There is no change of timesRepeat: in the image (and in the
changeset). It has no versions other the _ to := rewrite. Thus
there has been no wrong version of timesRepeat: at any point in Pharo.
>
> - hex removal (I do not remember why we removed it).
The only sender of hex: was the method asHTMLColor, in Pharo, this was
changed (bf) to not call hex: anymore.
I guess this change removed the hex:, as there where no senders.
It seems to have been harvested from this Squeak bugreport:
http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=6936
I personally think the critique we see down is far too harsh. If you
had no bugs in 3.9, then this is because
you used a stable, released version of 3.9. There is no such version
of Pharo yet. If you would have used an unstable
version of 3.9, you would have seen bugs, too.

I am developing in the latest Pharo. Seaside 2.8 and the latest
development versions of Seaside 2.9 work perfectly on the latest
development versions of Pharo.

[Pharo-project] Strange bugs?
by Stéphane Ducasse
Hi guys
I would be interesting to understand these two points:
- times repeat changes
- hex removal (I do not remember why we removed it).

Seaside, yes, this goes without saying ;)

As far as I know Lukas is using Pharo for a while for Seaside
development. So we should quickly detect any problems.

[Pharo-project] Pharo 1.0 release plan
by Torsten Bergmann
>Is there anything important we missed?
Yes - would be good if the first release is able to
load and run a stable seaside version, if possible the newest.
This depends on the seaside 2.9 release schedule
but at least it is already loadable in urrent Pharo using
squeaksource.com/SeasideLoader
Had no time to do any tests.

[Pharo-project] Pharo 1.0 release plan
by Adrian Lienhard
Hi everyone,
Last week in Bern, Marcus, Stef, and I have been discussing a plan for
a first release of Pharo. Overall, the goal is to produce a valuable,
stable "product" within reasonable time. Is there anything important
we missed? Any suggestions?
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
--------------------------------------------
Integrate Polymorph
Integrate TrueType
Main EToys removal
Refactor Traits API
NON-FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
--------------------------------------------
All tests green
License clean (check OLPC changes)
First consistent version of the website (work in progress)
INFRASTRUCTURE
--------------------------------------------
Increase efficiency of producing new updates (work in progress)
Prepare second update stream to maintain released version
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
--------------------------------------------
Going beta in January
Release of version 1.0 in February
Cheers,
Adrian
