I (pronounced claude.ai) have been working on a port of the current micropython to FreeDOS. It is fairly complete but untested by users. It is supposed to work with mTCP and any NIC, but I have only tested NE2000 There was some recent talk about a good language for FreeDOS. This doesn't have an IDE. But it does have a modern higher network stack (SSH, SSL, HTTPS).
