In fact I think that we should support asking questions on SO, as a lot of people are anxious to register and talk to others on mailing list, and prefer to search for solutions on SO. However the questions should be better than these last few. This asker looks like a beginner learning and I think would be better off with a tutorial which is not supported by Stack Overflow. I suspect by asking several questions in a short time they are likely to be stopped from asking questions for a bit - there is a rate limit as people who ask lots of questions tend to have poor questions are are wanting the answerers to do their work - in this case the asker is asking OK questions but that is not what we normally see in Stack Overflow (see PHP questions for what the SO system has to deal with and see that even at beginner level Smalltalkers seem to at least know how to ask questions better than for other languages.) You can create a good question and answer it yourself if you want to document/show something.

Yes, these questions are very poor, but maybe they can be useful for someone⦠My point is that maybe we can tell people that if they have problems they can also ask them on SO with âpharoâ tag.

There is a function designed for exactly this case - it is to mark (flag or vote) to close the question as duplicate. Adding an answer is adding to the noise which is likely why it got deleted. However SO does not provide as much help as it could to find duplicates -- Mark
Its true at times SO goes into "crazy mode" and closes useful questions and downvotes good answer, its a known condition as "human condition" , but overall SO is very useful for getting answer to questions and definitely is good promotion of pharo. Please note also that a question can be turned into wiki which also useful. I closely follow SO pharo tag and I track this tag and smalltalk tag and I am notified for any new questions using these tags. Surprising the majority of smalltalk questions are pharo questions which is very nice indeed. I dont know how much work would be if the pharo website would offer an online forum. If pharo grows in popularity I am not a fan of managing my messages via a mailing list. Blender which has already an extremely popular forum here (with at least 1 million posts) http://blenderartists.org/forum/ , has also chose to move to Stack exchance and has its own domain there for questions about blender. Emacs also recently ported to stack exchange. So Stack Exchange is here to stay and will all its disadvantages still a very good deal for pharo. Stack exchange, with Stackoverflow a part of it, is actually huge and probably the most popular ? forum ? out there and it keeps growing.
