[Pharo-project] Issue 3803 in pharo: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development
Status: Accepted Owner: siguc...@gmail.com New issue 3803 by siguc...@gmail.com: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 This has to be solved. But of course not just for Pharoers, but for everyone involved.
Comment #1 on issue 3803 by marianopeck: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 does gitourious have that?
Comment #2 on issue 3803 by geert.wl...@gmail.com: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 Why gitorious? I know GitBuh has an integrated issue tracker: https://github.com/features/projects/collaboration
Comment #3 on issue 3803 by geert.wl...@gmail.com: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 Why gitorious? I know GitHub has an integrated issue tracker: https://github.com/features/projects/collaboration
Comment #4 on issue 3803 by Torsten....@astares.de: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 Whats the problem of using a "google code project" and "google code issue tracker" similar to Pharo-project itself?
Comment #5 on issue 3803 by marianopeck: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 "Why gitorious? I know GitHub has an integrated issue tracker: https://github.com/features/projects/collaboration" Because the VM code is already there...so...why having yet another site of we can use the same?
Comment #6 on issue 3803 by Torsten....@astares.de: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 AFAIK CogVM source code is maintained by Eliot on the usual Subversion repo for VM development as a branch: http://squeakvm.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/branches/Cog/ This is also the repo where http://squeakvm.org points to. Will official Cog move to GitHub (and will Eliot use GitHub then) or is the GitHub copy a Pharo private fork from the official subversion?
Comment #7 on issue 3803 by geert.wl...@gmail.com: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 I thought too that the Cog VM source code was is the SqueakVM.org CVS repository hence why I wondered why Mariano mentioned Gitorious? If it needs to be different (for whatever reason) then I am with Torsten and just stick with Google Code likethe Pharo Project itself because it supports subversion and mercurial as well as an issue tracker.
Comment #8 on issue 3803 by geert.wl...@gmail.com: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 I just found the Cog VM project on Gitorious (http://gitorious.org/cogvm) but I wonder why Gitorious was chosen and not Google Code? It looks like it was started by Igor and Esteban late last year. Since this project is in a different location that then Eliot's official Cog I assume it is Pharo specific?

Eliot and igor will reply. Now we will probably open a dedicated Cog bug tracker on google. Eliot asked doru to do that.
Comment #11 on issue 3803 by siguc...@gmail.com: Create an issue tracker for Cog VM development http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3803 I won't go explaining over again, why we choose gitorious. If you want, you can read about it at vm-dev list. Feel free to resurrect that topic and put your arguments there. But this is not about 'official' source code. It is about issue tracker. What is clear, that we need a public place where we can collect and track Cog issues and their resolution. And P.S. Lets just avoid putting labels 'official' vs 'non-official'. I prefer to express things in terms public vs private. Gitorious is a public place, where you can register and add whatever project you want. As well as google code. In contrast, squeakvm.org SVN is far from being public, because you cannot commit anything there unless you obtain an 'official' permission from selected persons.
