Here some explanation to the link Marcus posted... ;) This is Pharo RC4 packaged in a one-click image and it is intend to be officially released very soon now. Please check it out and report any critical problems. (You can also report non-critical problems, but they are going into 1.1, or if important enough, into a forthcoming 1.0.* maintenance release.) also ... ;-) we locked down the update stream because IIRC we discussed it being undefined for the Pharo image. Preferences showUpdateOptionInWorldMenu --> false however, this is now our 1.0 release. we are happy to push this out without any ability for users to update it? the core and pharo (dev) images can have their own sections in the update.list. we could define two separate sections and then we leave ourselves open to push updates out to Pharo 1.0 if we want to? or are we just going to push out updates to PharoCore 1.0 at this stage in our process? i imagined such an update to Pharo 1.0 would be a carefully crafted metacello/gofer script. thanks. enough questions for now! another quick comment, something i have noticed for a while - SystemVersion current has a very old date in it. do we want to update it? i don't think we have ever discussed it in our process. i think it just used for printing out in logs. it doesn't really matter for 1.0. but i just had a quick look to check the version string had been updated. thanks, Mike

True...I have just checked. When I build dev images, I only set SystemVersion current version: 'XXX' but nothing else...should set do something like this too: SystemVersion current version: 'zzz'; date: Date today. ? Cheers MAriano thanks,

Laurent, thanks for pushing! We decided against upgrading to the newest Linux VM because it was just released the other day. I'd rather stick a while with the old one until we know the new one doesn't have any obvious glitches. So we should start using it but not put it into the official release. As Stef points out, we can do a 1.0.1 release with such upgrades if we don't want to wait for 1.1. It took us a long time to get 1.0 ready and in the future we should speed up our release cycles. Laurent, Stef, Especially with Linux users (who tend to have thick skin), we should offer links to things we want them to try. Each vm should ideally be provided in binary and source form. At the moment, I'm still using my hacked vm that loads libraries using absolute paths and focusing on building a 1.0 image.
