AFAIK this was done on purpose https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/16333/no-syntax-highlighting-in-TextModel-... "... I also put newText for the two bottom boxes in debugger since now newCode is fixed for highlighting, we do not want to have highlighted text for these text areas..."
