Wow, that image looks really gorgeous. And it is snappy too. Some problems I noticed: - Changing system fonts results in a deprecation warning with debugger. - The checkboxes in the preference browser, freetype category have some update problems. Tried it on Linux g64 2.6.25-gentoo-r5-b #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:10:54 CEST 2008 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux and while it's the best looking smalltalk I've seen on this box, I managed to freeze the image by invoking the world menu and moving the mouse down to Configuration. At this point two Warning dialogs pop up and that's it. I've attached a screenshot. s.

That's not good :) It works ok for me on Win Vista. It appears that the FT2Plugin is not working for you. Make sure that you start it by double clicking Pharo.exe Evaluate, SmalltalkImage current listLoadedModules to check that FT2Plugin is there and FT2Version current which answers nil if the plugin doesn't connect with the freetype6.dll correctly. Yes, this even happens when not having the TT/Polymorph installed. Shoud be fixed. One of the things that should be done it to readicaly clean up this menu... It's just one font that came with the TT package... we can experiment with different fonts and settings. Adrian tried today the font that TextMate uses, it's is very nice for code (but not free). We should experiment a bit, especially to find a good coding font that allows to disambiguate between 1|l and 0oO and is mono-spaced. The current font can be made a bit less gray by setting the GlyphContrast to e.g. 55. It is a direct copy of Bitstream Vera Sans, renamed as Squeak Sans, and with the embedding flags changed to enable it to be legally embedded in an application. The license for the Bitstream fonts allows them to be altered in any way, so long as the name is changed. Try experimenting with the preferences; i.e. contrast, hinting mode. I haven't checked, but I would guess that it is owned by Apple and the license prohibits its redistribution.

Good list, thanks. The default font should be sensible and generally acceptable, but since everyone can change that and choose their own favourite font from those available in their operating system, does it really matter what the default is? Note that it is possible to set each default to be a list of fonts, and whichever is found first will be used. e.g. Preferences setListFontTo: (LogicalFont familyName: 'Monaco' fallbackFamilyNames: #('Segoe UI'. 'Helvetica'. No the default should be free and good. Because most of the people will not change it and this is what we see first.
Note that it is possible to set each default to be a list of fonts, and whichever is found first will be used. e.g.

Hi folks. This thread is a bit stale now, but Gary and I were playing with getting our latest web app installed on this Pharo image - plus of course our in-house tools that Gary's built. I run a Mac (unlike everybody else in the office) and my clipboard is no longer working. In other words, text I copy to the clipboard in OSX can't be pasted into the Pharo image. The reverse *does* work (ie text copied in the image can be pasted into an app in OSX). I'm not sure if I'm repeating an earlier bug report here, or something already known, sorry if I am. 1) installed TT fonts. For this, used the package that Andy put together for Stef some time ago:
