It looks like flags are "discared". For example with the libSM no found for vm-display-X11, I tried

LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib32"��

as��

# ls ��/usr/lib32/*SM*

/usr/lib32/libSM.so.6 ��/usr/lib32/libSM.so.6.0.1

but still try to link on /usr/lib/libSM.so
